Git Course

Installing Git

To begin using Git, you need to install it. Here’s how to install Git based on your operating system:

  • Windows Download the Git installer from git-scm.com. Follow the installation wizard.
  • macOS You can use Homebrew (brew install git) or download the installer from git-scm.com.
  • Linux Git can be installed via package managers, such as apt (Debian/Ubuntu) or dnf (Fedora).

Once installed, you can check the installation with:

git --version

Configuring Git

Once Git is installed, configure it with your user information:

git config --global user.name "Praveen Oruganti" git config --global user.email "praveenoruganti@gmail.com"

This ensures that your commits are attributed to the correct author. You can check your configuration by running:

git config --list

I see this in my system.
